Chapter 1, discovering Celeste

The mysterious celeste
Finding celeste
By Katie Madison.
It was a quiet summer night. Katie and haylee were just waking up while the rest of the house was asleep. Haylee lifted her head and asked hey Katie. Are you awake? Katie rolled over and opened her eyes. Yes I am. Its 3 in the morning. What are you doing up. I can't get to sleep, said haylee. Me neither, Katie said. Haylee sat up. Hey Katie! Why don't we go for a walk. Katie looked at haylee doubtfully. I don't think that's a good idea. First of all, its way to early and mom and dad will worry about us. Come on Katie. Haylee said. Lets walk around the block. Katie thought long and hard about this. Ok you win, she said reluctantly. Just keep quiet. We don't want to wake up the whole house. The girls got up and began getting ready for their long walk. After collecting what they needed, they went out the door and headed into the night. Katie was unsure about the whole thing. After walking a little ways, Katie asked, where should we go. I don't know. Lets keep walking. Haylee said. It was dark out and haylee wasn't able to see anything. Katie needed haylee's guidance because she was blind. After a lot of walking, the surroundings became unfamiliar to the girls. I think we're lost! Haylee said. I do to. Said Katie. The girls were a little frightened. Haylee had a plan. Lets keep going. She suggested. And so they did. After they walked a little longer, haylee noticed something. Look! There's a pond up ahead. Why don't we just go for a swim, she said in excitement. After all, the girls were hot and tired. Katie looked at haylee with concern. I don't think we should take a dip in some strange pond. We don't have bathing suits. Haylee laughed. You're not chicken are you? No. I just want to be safe. Katie said. After talking it over, they went toward the pond. It was beautiful, with rippling clear water. The pond was shallow at one end. However the farther the girls swam the deeper the pond became. After swimming a while, the girls were lost. I think we're lost. Katie said. The girls called for help. They called and called but no one could hear them. All of a sudden they heard something. Down here! Come this way! Cried a small voice. Who was that? Asked haylee. I don't know. Katie replied. Lets follow the sound. Good thinking. Haylee said. Stay right there. I'll come and find you. As the voice got closer, haylee could see who it was. She was a beautiful lady. She was tall and slim with curly blond hair. My name is celeste. She said as she swam closer. I just came for a swim. I heard your cry for help. I can take you home. But how? Haylee asked. Our house is so far away and we're tired and cold. We can't swim very far. I want to go home. You shouldn't have wandered very far. Said celeste in disappointment. Anyway, come with me. With celeste's guidance, the girls swam to the edge of the pond. I know a short cut, she said. Celeste looked at the girls and they gave her their undivided attention as she spoke. Just hold my hands and don't let go. Think really hard. Tell me where you live. I live a few blocks from here. Katie said unsure of herself. Hold tight and don't let go. Celeste instructed. Before they knew it, the girls were lifted off the ground. They flew higher and higher until they were at the tree tops. We're flying! Haylee said. Isn't this great? I don't know about this. Said Katie. She was a little scared. As they flew, haylee could see a everything from the great distance. They went past the school, some buildings, and finally, their house. Here we are. We're about to land, said celeste as they went slowly to the ground. Safe and sound on the ground! Katie said in relief. Celeste turned to face the girls. Ok. Here we are. I have to go now. If you need me, just think really hard. Say my name three times and I will be there. Before they knew it, the beautiful lady was gone. The girls stepped inside. By the time they got home it was morning and mom and dad were getting ready for the day. That was close! Said haylee. No one's await. Mom entered the room. Good morning girls. Did you have a good night? She said. Yes mama. Said haylee. Mom looked at Katie. I have to go into work a day early. Could you watch haylee till I get back. Yes. Katie said. After all. She loved watching her sister. Bye girls, and have a good day. Mom said as she headed out the door. After mom left, the girls settled down for a long nap. Morning Katie? Are you awake? Yes. She said. Haylee got out of bed. Want to play with me? Sure I do. Said Katie. What should we play? I don't know. Said haylee. Lets call celeste. How do we call her again? Katie asked. That's easy! Just hold hands and think really hard. And so they did. The girls called her name, but nothing happened. Hold on. Katie said. I hear her. In the distance, haylee could see a series of twinkling lights and a puff of smoke, and there she was, standing before them. Celeste smiled. Hello girls. What can I do for you today. Katie said. Lets play school. Celeste said. School? Katie said in puzzlement. Celeste had an idea. I can take care of that. All I have to do is shake my head and roll my eyes. And when she did this, after a twinkle and a puff of smoke, a small hand bag appeared. It was full of stuff, from pencils and paper to books of all sorts. Wow! Katie said in amazement. How did you do that! Celeste gave her a serious look. I'll have to tell you some other time. For now, lets have fun. I'll be the teacher. Lets start with math. The girls did their multiplication tables which they knew very well. After math, was music. I'll teach you a song! Celeste said. They sang about all kinds of things. One of their favorites was about getting wet. After all, they had quite the adventure the night before. After music, the girls wanted to show celeste Katie's doll collection. Katie picked up one of her dolls and presented it to celeste. I like this one. She is very tall. Celeste looked at the doll and said, she looks a lot like, o never mind. That's another thing for another day. Haylee looked at her and said you seen so different from anyone we've met before. You can do lots of things. I know said celeste. Lets not talk about that now. She looked at the clock and panicked. The time! I must be going and your mom should be on her way. Celeste? Can you stay? Katie asked. Before celeste could answer, mom had arrived. Your mom is here. Celeste said. The girls headed to the bathroom. They needed to talk about things. Hello girls. How was your day? Mom said as she headed inside. She turned and saw celeste. And may I ask who are you? My name is celeste and I've got to be going. But may I have a minute with the girls? Yes you may. Mom replied. They're in the bathroom. Celeste frantically ran to the bathroom and knocked on the door. Can I come in? Its me, celeste. I need to talk to you. Come on in. Haylee said as she opened the door. Celeste sat on the floor and looked directly at the girls. I need to tell you some things about me that you should know. Before I do, you must promise me you won't tell anyone. I promise. The girls said. But what about mom. Can we tell her. Yes. Celeste replied. She is a very nice lady after all. Have you wondered how I was able to get you girls home so fast and cane when you called? I have special magic powers that allow me to do these things. I even use them to return home. But why can't you stay. If I don't return home soon, my powers can't be used again for another twelve hours. Please don't tell anyone without asking first. Ok? Ok. Said the girls. Again, there were some twinkling lights and another puff of smoke and celeste was gone. At the end of the day, Katie and haylee told mom and dad about their time with celeste. Mom and dad were amazed and hoped they could meet her some day. However, celeste didn't have it so lucky. Her powers went out before she got the chance to return home. What happened to her? Well, that's another story for another day.
