The mysterious celeste
Chapter 2 celeste's revelation
Many months have went by since Katie and haylee saw celeste, a beautiful magical lady that they met last summer. So much time has passed that they long forgotten about their dear friend. That was until one fall evening. Katie and haylee were spending the weekend at their grandma's. Mom and dad had Christmas shopping to do. The girls were excited to see their grandma and grandpa. Mom and dad didn't stay very long. They wanted to leave before the mall closed. Before they left, however, they decided to stay for supper. That evening, grandma put on a pot of beans. When supper was ready, mom, dad, and the girls went to the table. As they ate, the family had a nice talk. How are you doing girls? Grandma asked. We're doing good. Said haylee. How is school? Asked grandpa. Its ok. I made a a plus on my math test. Said haylee. Grandma and grandpa smiled. Well done! Things are going just blah for me. Said Katie. Same stuff different day. When Katie said this, something strange happened. Katie heard a small giggle coming from the living room. What was that? She asked. I don't know. Grandma said. Supper was good as usual. After that, mom and dad told the girls bye. Later that night around 11 or so, grandma called the girls to the living room. The girls, grandma, and grandpa sat down. I have an early Christmas present for you both. Grandma said smiling. What is it? Katie asked. Well, you'll have to see. Grandpa said. Grandma gave the box to the girls. The box was huge. It took both the girls to open it. And so the girls opened the box. What they found inside was even more surprising. It was the most beautiful doll they had ever seen. She was so lifelike. She was 2 feet tall with a beautiful dress and high heel shoes. She had curly blond hair that flowed over her shoulders. She looks familiar. Haylee said. Just put her on your lap. Said grandma. I will. Said Katie. When she did, the doll moved her head and spoke. Hi. My name is celeste. Will you play with me. She seemed to know when you held her. When Katie removed the doll from her lap, she cried. The dull could do lots of things. She sang, danced, and talked a lot. We love her. Said haylee. Thank you. Your welcome. Said grandma. I found her on a shelf at wall mart. I found her all alone on a shelf. I hope you like her. We do. Said the girls. Thanks so much. After playing with the doll a little longer, the girls decided to go to bed. Lets take the doll with us. Said Katie. Ok! Haylee replied. The girls went to the bedroom and shut the door. When they did, something strange happened. When haylee picked up the doll, it began to glow a bright orange. What's wrong with it? Haylee said. Its glowing and getting hot. Why don't you turn it off. Said Katie. The switch is in the back. When haylee turned the doll off, nothing happened. Suddenly, this white smoke surrounded the doll. The girls could hear a strange noise coming from the doll as smoke filled the room. The dull began to grow. She grew bigger and bigger until she became life size. Then, the doll, which appeared to look like a young lady began to walk around the room. When haylee got a look at her, she realized that the lady in the room was someone quite familiar. She happened to be celeste. The girls forgotten friend. Celeste? Katie asked in shock. Is it really you? Celeste turned to hug Katie. O girls! Celeste cried. Its really you. I thought I'd never see you again. Celeste looked at the girls with sad eyes. What happened to you. Haylee asked. Where's the doll? Asked Katie. Doll? What doll. Celeste said. You don't know? She has your name. Said Katie. Ok ok. Said celeste. I'll tell you. Sit down and listen. I will reveal my true self to you. I don't have long, so please don't ask questions. I am ordinarily a doll. I have the power to come to life. I can come alive at will or if someone like you girls want me to. Remember how I said that my powers go out at a certain time? Well, at 3 am, I am able to come to life and use them. However, at 3 pm I am turned back into a doll and there is nothing I can do about it. I live in the land of dolls. My friends and I were made by an old lady called shawnalee. She gave me my powers. She can take them away if I don't do as she says. I'm not supposed to be here. Remember the last time you saw me? Well, my powers went out before I got the chance to go home. Shawnalee found me on the sidewalk. When I came back to life the next day, she took me to the local toy store and locked me up. She asked me to not come alive again for the next year. She said that if I did, my powers would be taken away from me for good. O wow? Said Katie. But what do we do? I will turn back into a doll. When I do, hide me. Hide me anywhere you can think of. Please don't let shawnalee take my magic from me? Ok. Said haylee. We'll hide you. But before celeste could turn back, there was a puff of smoke and shawnalee appeared. She was an old woman. She wore rags for clothes and tall heels on her feet. She had a mop of curls on her head and a dirty look on her face. She wasn't someone to mess around with. She turned toward celeste and gave her a mean look. Celeste! She said angrily. What on earth are you doing here. I thought I locked you up. Who found you. I'm not telling. Katie said. Shawnalee leaned over toward Katie and stuck out her hand. I am shawnalee, head of the land of dolls. I made celeste. I have a whole lot more power than your little friend will ever have. You tell me who found celeste and let her go or I'll hold you personally responsible for her disappearance. Leave us alone. Haylee demanded. Shawnalee leaned in closer. Tell me now. I don't have all night. Celeste cane to Katie's side. She laid her head on Katie and cried. O please, great one. The girls did nothing. I got out on my own. I cane here last night. Shawnalee quickly grabbed celeste. So you didn't do as I asked? So you will pay for this. Say goodbye to your little friend girls. I will take her from here. Sparks flew from shawnalee's hands and went to celeste. Celeste was surrounded by a puff of smoke and before the girls knew it, she was a doll again. Shawnalee threw her down to the ground. Shawnalee sat down on the ground. Why did you do this to our friend? Asked Katie asked. She has been good to us. Haylee said. The girls hung their heads and cried. What did she ever do to you. Said Katie. Shawnalee looked at the girls with sad eyes. All my life, nobody liked me. I made celeste because I was lonely. I wanted her to come home and be with me. But that's not how you treat someone who is good to you. You took something more valuable than someone's powers. You took a dear friend away from us. Katie said. I may have a lot more power than celeste could ever have, but celeste is more well loved. You don't need magic to be loved. Katie began to explain. If you are good to someone, they will be good to you in return. Thanks for explaining this to me. Said shawnalee. Maybe if I am good to celeste, maybe she'll want to be good to me? Absolutely. Katie said. She is actually afraid of you. She wanted my sister and I to hide her from you. Shawnalee picked celeste up. As she held the doll close, she said, I am so sorry for treating you so badly. Shawnalee turned toward the girls. I an sorry for putting you girls in a bad situation. What can I do to make it up to you. Well, haylee said, could you make her come back to life? We want our friend back. Shawnalee smiled. Ok. Here you go. As she held the doll tight, the old woman said some words to herself. The doll glowed and clouds of smoke filled the room, and celeste's powers were restored. Celeste looked at shawnalee and said thank you man. What made you change your mind? Well, shawnalee said as she turned toward Katie, this young lady showed me how to be a true friend. She taught me that you don't have to have magic abilities to be loved. Shawnalee, Katie said. I have to tell you something. Not only an I a normal young woman, I am also blind. You don't have to even see to be a good friend. I don't have any friends of my own. Shawnalee looked at Katie in surprise. Why not. You are so sweet. The old woman smiled at the girls and celeste. Celeste, shawnalee said. I would love it if you came home with me if you want to. You don't have to. You can stay with the girls as long as you like and come home whenever you want. After all, they need you a lot more than I do. O thank you kind lady. Thank you so much. You're welcome. And girls, shawnalee said. Celeste can use her magic whenever she wants, so you have nothing to worry about. Also, if you need me, just give me a call. I'll be there. The old woman pulled out her iPhone. You have an iPhone? Katie asked. The old woman laughed. Can't magical beings have cool phones too? After they exchanged contact information, shawnalee hugged the girls. Goodbye. She said sadly. I'll never forget you. Me neither. Said the girls. Stop by sometime. She said. After a puff of smoke appeared, the old lady was gone. Celeste lifted her head. Its getting late. Why don't we turn in for the night. We have a lot to talk about in the morning. I would love to meet your family. And so, after clouds of smoke filled the room, celeste was a doll again. The girls laid down with celeste and fell asleep, dreaming about what would happen the next day.
